LABDA is an organization of Islamic preachers. Its main mission is to accelerate social transformation trough preaching. LABDA was established due to several concerns: First, it sees that the system of preaching methodology and system are weak and therefore LABDA is trying to improve them.

Second, democracy is still something strange for Moslems and Labda is seeking to promote democracy to Islamic followers particularly its students. Third, majority of Moslems still do not accept pluralism.

At the center of LABDA’s agendas are: Promoting democratic value among students. Second, promoting the type of dakwah (preaching) which can accelerate social transformation process.

The agenda is implemented trough the following programs: civic education programs, scientific studies on social transformation and training for preachers. LABDA also publishes newsletter “INFODA”. It also conducts training on ideology, politics, organizational management (IDIOPOLITOR). LABDA also seeks to empower local communities “JARUM DESA”.

LABDA seeks cooperation with other organizations such as Muhammadiyah, Dewan Da’wah, Forum Ukhuwah Islamiyah (FUI), the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Gadjahmada University, Department of Demography of the University of Indonesia, NGO Forum in Yogjakarta. Labda has fostered a strong relation with such as FKIM, LDK, KPMM (Solo) and FPMM(Semarang). LABDA receives funding from foreign NGOS such the Asia Foundation.

LABDA which is backed by 20 staffs is facing two crucial problems: Lack of qualified human resources and financing. LABDA will use contribution from donors to improve human resources trough training and upgrade infrastructure such as office and information and technology.
