YPKM is non governmental organization which is seeking to improve the welfare of the people. Its establishment was due to several concerns: First, Most Moslems in West Nusa Tenggara province are still living below poverty line. Second, Moslems in the province often suffer discrimination. Third, conflicts involving religious followers frequently occur in the province.
YKPM focuses its attention on the following issues: promoting pluralism and tolerance. Second promoting gender equality and third, strengthening elements of civil society.
The agenda is sought to be achieved through the following programs: Holding discussions, seminars, talk-shows about pluralism, gender equality and civilian supremacy and providing legal advocacy to local communities. YKPM also is seeking to increase people’s awareness on multicultural issues.
The NGO which has 22 staffs personnel has established a network with other NGOs such as P3M (Jakarta), Lakpesdam (Jakarta), Desantara (Jakarta), LKKNU (Jakarta), LKPSM (Yogjakarta), IRCOS (Jakarta), IRSIS (Jakarta), Salsabila (Malang), Elsad (Surabaya) and other NGOs in West Nusa Tenggara. YKPM also established relation with Pesantren in the province. YPPM receives funding from the Asia Foundation.
Lack of financing and low quality of human resources becomes major obstacles of YKPM in carrying out its activities. If it secures financing it will use it to improve capacity building: upgrading office facilities (computers, printers etc), and conducting training for its staffs. |
