P3M is a non governmental organization with the main mission to improve quality of Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) and community. P3M, one of the oldest NGOs in Indonesia , has become a pioneer of other NGOS in the country. Although its main focus is Pesantren and community, P3m also pays attention to other issues such as religious and social and political issues. In this context P3M is concerned with literal interpretation of Qur’an, widespread corruption and lack of attention on humanity.  

The main issues are sought to be addressed trough several action programs such as seminar, talk-show, publication bulletin, training, and public advocacy. In Jakarta , P3M helped the public in their protest against poor public facilities. In Semarang , it helps labors to obtain their basic rights.

The NGO which is backed by 29 activists has fostered a good relation with other NGOs such as ICW, PSPK/FITRA, Lakpesdam NU, YLBHI, BISMI, DebtWatch, INFID, IIIT and PBNU. P3M receives funding from The Ford Foundation and holds partnership with The Asia Foundation.

As an established organization P3M does not face serious obstacles in carrying out its programs as it has a good infrastructure and supra-structure. The problems that P3M faces mostly technical and administrative problems which do not have influence overall performance of the organization.   But if P3M is to receive funding, it will use the money to improve capacity particularly to improve quality of human resources trough better education. P3M is encouraging its staffs to pursue master and doctoral degree.
