Ma’had Aliy li al-‘Ulum al-Islamiyah Qism al-Fiqh is a non governmental organization which aims to promote non violent movement. The NGO was established due to the following concerns: First, The growing conflicts among religious followers. Second, widespread violent acts against women. Third, Lack of attention from religious leaders on the problem of lower class people.

To address the problems Ma’had Aliy, have taken several activities which include: Promoting pluralism, democracy and gender equality trough publication of bulletin, holding radio talk shows and interactive discussions. The foundation also promote critical thinking fiqh trough regular discussion. Other activities include providing English course and training on research methodology for Ma’had students.  

To carry out its programs, the foundation established cooperation with other organizations such as P3M ( Jakarta ), IKGW (Yogjakarta), LkiS (Yogjakarta) and East Java branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama. It also established links with eLSAD ( Surabaya ), PMII (Situbondo), IKSASS (Situbondo), Islamic state University ( Malang ), Lakpesdam NU ( Jakarta ), JIL ( Jakarta ) and ISIS ( Jakarta ).   The foundation which employs 13 staffs receives funding from the Religious Affairs Department.   Lack of funds becomes the main obstacle for the foundation to carry out its programs and therefore if the foundation obtains funds it will use them to improve the quality of its human resources.
